The Bee Gees were a legendary pop music group formed in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the brothers began their musical journey in Manchester before moving to Australia, where they found early success. The group’s name was inspired by two people who helped launch their career – a DJ named Bill Gates and promoter Bill Goode.

In 1967, the Bee Gees returned to England and soon achieved international fame with a string of hit singles like “Massachusetts,” “I Started a Joke,” and “Words.” From 1968 to 1980, the band composed and stayed at 67 Brook Street in London’s fashionable Mayfair district, located in the borough of Westminster. During this highly productive period, the Bee Gees released successful albums such as Odessa and the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, which propelled them to global superstardom and cemented their status as disco icons.

The Bee Gees’ signature three-part vocal harmonies, combined with their skillful songwriting and versatility in exploring various genres, made them one of the most successful musical acts of all time. With record sales exceeding 220 million, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2008, this commemorative blue plaque was erected at their former London residence to honor their immense contributions to music. Although Maurice and Robin have since passed away, Barry Gibb continues to carry on the Bee Gees’ musical legacy.
