Mickie Most was a renowned English record producer who played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of British pop music in the 1960s and 70s. Born Michael Peter Hayes in 1938 in Aldershot, Hampshire, Most began his career as a singer before transitioning to record production.

Most achieved incredible success producing hits for artists like The Animals, Donovan, Lulu, Jeff Beck, and Suzi Quatro. He had an impressive 11 number one singles in the UK with acts he produced. Most was known for his keen ear, innovative production techniques, and ability to bring out the best in the artists he worked with.

In 1969, Most founded RAK Records and RAK Studios, where this commemorative plaque is located in London’s St John’s Wood area. RAK became one of the most successful British record labels of the 1970s. Most went on to produce a string of hits at RAK Studios for artists like Hot Chocolate, Kim Wilde, and Smokie. His influential productions span several decades and genres including British Invasion rock, psychedelic folk, glam rock and disco.

Most’s prolific career earned him many accolades before his passing in 2003 at age 64. He was a true architect of the “British Sound” that invaded airwaves worldwide.
