Jerome K. Jerome (1859-1927) was an English writer and humorist best known for his comic travelogue “Three Men in a Boat.” Born in Walsall, Staffordshire, he moved to London as a child. Despite leaving school at 14, Jerome pursued his passion for literature and theater, taking on various jobs while honing his writing skills.

Jerome’s breakthrough came with the publication of “Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)” in 1889. The novel, based on a real boating trip Jerome took with friends on the River Thames, became an instant success for its witty narration and humorous anecdotes. The book’s enduring popularity has never waned, and it remains a classic of English literature.

While residing at flat 104 in Chelsea Gardens, along Chelsea Bridge Road in London’s Borough of Westminster, Jerome penned his most famous work. Chelsea, a historically significant area, has been home to numerous writers, artists, and intellectuals over the years.
