Dorothy Bland, better known by her stage name Mrs. Jordan (1761-1816), was a celebrated Irish actress who captivated London audiences in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born in Waterford, Ireland, she embarked on a theatrical career at a young age, making her debut in Dublin before ultimately conquering the London stage.

Mrs. Jordan’s talent and charm made her a favorite at the Drury Lane Theatre, where she enthralled audiences with her comedic roles and engaging performances. Her portrayal of spirited, witty characters in plays like “The Country Girl” and “The Romp” solidified her status as one of the most beloved actresses of her time.

Beyond her successful acting career, Mrs. Jordan is also remembered for her personal life, notably her 20-year relationship with Prince William, Duke of Clarence, who later became King William IV. The couple had ten illegitimate children together, known as the FitzClarences. Despite the scandal surrounding their union, Mrs. Jordan remained a popular figure in London society until her untimely death in 1816 at the age of 54.
