Sir Harry Lauder (1870-1950) was a renowned Scottish singer and comedian who became one of the most popular entertainers of the early 20th century. Born in Portobello, Edinburgh, Lauder began his career performing in local music halls and soon gained fame for his comedic songs and charming stage presence. His signature style included wearing a kilt and carrying a crooked walking stick, which became iconic symbols of his act.

Lauder’s success took him beyond the stages of Scotland, and he became a beloved figure in England and the United States. He performed for royalty, including King Edward VII and King George V, and even entertained troops during World War I. Some of his most famous songs include “I Love a Lassie,” “Roamin’ in the Gloamin’,” and “Keep Right on to the End of the Road.”

From 1903 to 1911, Sir Harry Lauder resided at 46 Longley Road in Tooting, located in the Borough of Wandsworth, London. During this period, he would have been a prominent figure in the local community, bringing laughter and joy to the neighborhood with his infectious personality and talent. In 1919, Lauder was knighted by King George V for his contributions to entertainment and his efforts to boost morale during the war, becoming Sir Harry Lauder.

Throughout his career, Lauder recorded many of his songs and appeared in several films, ensuring that his legacy would endure long after his passing in 1950.
