She was also a successful retailer, opening a kitchenware shop on Pimlico Road in 1965 that sold then-exotic items like garlic presses and pasta machines. In 1982, she was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her contributions to the culinary arts. Today, Elizabeth David is remembered as one of the most important figures in 20th-century British cuisine, and her legacy continues to inspire food lovers around the world.
