As a professor of music at Cambridge University, Stanford taught and mentored many notable composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. Stanford was also a respected conductor, leading performances of his own works and those of other composers.

Stanford lived at 56 Hornton Street in London’s Borough of Kensington and Chelsea from 1894 to 1916.
