Bram Stoker (1847-1912) was an Irish author best known for his iconic Gothic novel “Dracula.” Born in Dublin, Stoker grew up to become a prolific writer and theatre manager. He worked as the assistant of the renowned English actor Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre in London for many years.

Stoker’s most famous work, “Dracula,” was published in 1897 and has since become a classic of horror literature. The novel tells the story of Count Dracula, a vampire from Transylvania, and his attempt to move to England. It has inspired countless adaptations in film, television, and theatre.

Stoker lived at 18 St Leonard’s Terrace in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, an affluent area of London known for its stunning Victorian architecture and cultural attractions. Other notable residents of the borough have included author Virginia Woolf, actress Vivien Leigh, and politician Winston Churchill.

Though Stoker is primarily remembered for “Dracula,” he wrote numerous other novels and short stories throughout his career. He was also a close friend of fellow author Thomas Henry Hall Caine. Stoker died in London in 1912 at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy that has endured for over a century.
