Dame Agatha Christie was a renowned English writer famous for her detective novels and plays. Born in 1890, she became one of the best-selling authors of all time, with her works translated into over 100 languages. Christie is best known for creating iconic characters like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple who solved complex mysteries in her hugely popular books such as “Murder on the Orient Express” and “The Mousetrap.”

From 1934 to 1941, Christie resided at 58 Sheffield Terrace in the fashionable London borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It was during her time living here that she wrote some of her most celebrated novels including “Death on the Nile” (1937) and “And Then There Were None” (1939). The latter has the distinction of being the world’s best-selling mystery novel ever.

In addition to her prolific writing career, Christie led a fascinating life. She worked in a hospital dispensary during both World Wars, gaining knowledge of poisons that she would later employ in her detective fiction. Christie was also married to renowned archaeologist Max Mallowan and accompanied him on digs, setting several of her novels in the Middle East. In 1971, she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her immense contributions to literature. Dame Agatha Christie passed away in 1976, but her legacy as the ingenious “Queen of Crime” lives on through her timeless works which continue to delight mystery lovers around the globe to this day.
