Throughout his career, Glaisher worked tirelessly to advance the study of meteorology. He made numerous balloon ascents to collect data on atmospheric conditions at various altitudes, setting a world record in 1862 by reaching an estimated height of 35,000 feet (10,668 meters). These daring exploits provided invaluable insights into the structure and behavior of the atmosphere.

Glaisher’s meticulous observations and scientific approach laid the foundation for modern weather forecasting. He established the Meteorological Society (now the Royal Meteorological Society) in 1850 and served as its secretary for over 30 years. His work helped to standardize meteorological instruments and observation methods, enabling more accurate and reliable weather predictions.
