Peter Sellers was a renowned British actor, comedian and performer, best known for his work on the groundbreaking radio comedy series “The Goon Show” alongside Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe in the 1950s. Born Richard Henry Sellers in 1925, he began his career as a drummer and impressionist. His talent for voices and characterization soon led him into radio and eventually film.

Sellers became an international star through iconic movie roles such as Inspector Clouseau in the “Pink Panther” series. His genius for comedy was matched by his flair for drama in films like “Being There”, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Other notable performances include multiple roles in “Dr. Strangelove” and “The Party”. He was beloved for his ability to completely transform into the eccentric characters he portrayed.

In 1972, Sellers reunited with his fellow Goons to record “The Last Goon Show of All” at the Camden Theatre, now known as KOKO, on Chalk Farm Road in London’s Borough of Camden. The special one-off performance was a nostalgic and hilarious revisiting of the surreal sketches and zany humor that made “The Goon Show” a radio sensation. Sadly, Peter Sellers passed away in 1980 at age 54, leaving behind an extraordinary comedic legacy. This blue plaque celebrates the site of his final performance with the madcap gang where his unique comic genius all began.
