Born in Cudham, Kent, Relph began his career as a music hall performer in the late 1880s. His signature “Big Boot Dance”, where he wore oversized clown boots, became a beloved routine that showcased his agility and comedic timing.

He lived and died at 93 Shirehall Park in Hendon, located in the London Borough of Barnet. The blue plaque commemorating his life and legacy was erected at this address in 1969, over four decades after his passing.
